Venue

When thinking about where to hold the programme, consider the following:

  • Does the venue have enough space for the numbers you expect, and especially will there be space for small groups to function?
  • Is there adequate heating or cooling?
  • Does the venue offer calm surroundings? It’s not good, for instance, if it backs onto a rail line and trains regularly rumble by.
  • Does the facility have equipment – such as TV, video, video projector and screen, chairs, etc – available and accessible?
  • Is the lighting adequate for an evening programme?
  • Are there facilities for serving refreshments?
  • Can you open up and lock up, or is there someone else you need to rely on?
  • Do the hall owners have insurance that would cover you and parents if an accident occurs?
  • How early are you able to set up for the evening?

Consider venues such as: churches, schools, council civic centres, libraries, community halls, sports clubs, motels and hotels. Owners of privately owned premises can be approached to act as sponsors even if their sponsorship amounts only to providing a meeting space at no cost.
